Vocabulary

  • snob: someone who thinks they are better than other people because they are in a higher social position.
    Just because you're attending an Ivy League university doesn't mean you have to be a snob to community college students. Gimme a break! 
  • Goldman Sachs: American multinational investment bank and financial services company headquartered in New York City.
  • subtle: not obvious or easy to notice.
  • leave this Earth: die / pass away.
    I want to climb Mount Everest before I leave this Earth. 
  • bleacher seats / bleachers: cheap seats at an outdoor sports stadium. These type of seats are usually uncovered and farthest from the playing field.
  • an arm and a leg: a lot of money.
    Why do you want to fly first-class to Tokyo? That's going to cost an arm and a leg. 
    Why don't you just fly economy? It's only a two-hour flight from here. 
  • frugal: careful not to spend very much money.
  • dividend: an amount of money paid regularly to someone who owns shares in a company from the company's profits.
  • Eco-hotel: (also known as a “green” hotel) a hotel with features and services designed not to be harmful to the environment.
    generic: a consumer product having no brand name or registered trademark.
    I usually buy generic corn flakes cereal from Walmart. It's cheaper, and it tastes exactly the same as the Kellogg's one.
  • longevity: a long life ; the ability to last for a long time.
